Responsible collection is a condition of the work.
Human motion data can be useful for robotics, embodied intelligence, research, and product development. That value does not override the rights, choices, safety, or dignity of the people and households involved.
Our standard is to collect only data that is lawfully authorized, relevant to a stated assignment, gathered through an approved workflow, and handled with appropriate safeguards. We do not accept covert, deceptive, trespassing, harassing, unsafe, or otherwise unlawful collection.
Permission first
Collection begins only after required access permission, notice, and consent are in place.
Defined purpose
Every collection has a written scope, approved task, and stated quality and privacy requirements.
Minimum necessary
Collectors limit recording to the people, places, time, and information needed for the task.
Safety over footage
A collector must pause or stop whenever continuing would be unsafe, unlawful, or disrespectful.
We record only where we have the right to be.
Standard residential collection may take place in a contributor's own home or in another residence where an adult owner, lessee, resident, or authorized occupant has permission to grant access and has authorized both the task and the recording.
- Collectors may record only in approved areas and must honor excluded rooms, items, and house rules.
- Recording must use the Company-approved application or workflow and follow the written Assignment Brief.
- Tasks must be genuine, purposeful household activities. Fabricated or misleading activity is not accepted.
- Incidental capture while entering, exiting, or safely performing the task must be kept to the minimum reasonably necessary.
Separately commissioned third-person, motion-capture, new-task, or new-location programs require their own written scope and appropriate consent and privacy controls before collection begins.
No one should be recorded against their wishes.
Adults and minors may appear in footage. The data collector is responsible for securing and documenting the appropriate permission through the Company-approved procedure. A collector may not replace a required written or electronic process with an informal or misleading explanation.
- Before recording an identifiable adult, the collector must inform that person and obtain any permission required by law and the approved collection flow.
- Before recording a minor, the collector must obtain permission from the minor's parent or legal guardian, together with any additional notice, consent, or assent required by applicable law and the approved collection flow.
- If someone enters the footage before the required permission is in place, the collector must pause, reposition, stop, or exclude that footage until permission has been obtained.
- If a person objects or asks the collector to stop, the collector must respect that request and stop recording or exclude the person from capture.
- For standard first-person residential collection, the contributor's face should not be intentionally visible. Other people may appear when the collector has obtained the required permission.
Consent requirements can vary by country and by data type. Country-specific terms and non-waivable local rights always continue to apply.
Private information stays outside the frame.
Collectors must avoid capturing information that a reasonable person would consider private or sensitive unless an Assignment Brief specifically requires it and Human Motion Data has supplied a lawful basis and additional safeguards.
- Government identification, financial documents, medical records, passwords, access codes, and private device screens are excluded by default.
- Private correspondence, contact details, and information unrelated to the task should be removed, covered, or kept outside the recording area.
- Collectors may not use project data for a personal purpose, another client, or an attempt to identify or re-identify a household member, bystander, or site occupant.
- Collectors may not post, stream, or share recordings or non-public project information on social media, public forums, or with unauthorized third parties.
A recording is never worth causing harm.
Contributors are instructed to work naturally and professionally, use appropriate tools, and stop when a task or environment becomes unsafe, unlawful, or inconsistent with site rules. They must not endanger, harass, strike, or make unsafe contact with any person or animal for the sake of a recording.
Dangerous conditions, aggressive animals, weapons hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, lost devices containing project data, and suspected privacy or security incidents must be reported promptly through the designated channel.
Clear terms support informed participation.
Contributors must be adults with the legal capacity to participate. They decide whether to accept an offered assignment; our standard contributor agreement does not require a minimum number of assignments and does not guarantee a minimum volume of work.
Compensation terms and the rate for accepted usable footage are shown in the app, Assignment Brief, or other written assignment flow. Acceptance decisions are made against the disclosed technical, quality, legal, safety, and privacy requirements. Contributors have channels to ask questions, report incidents, and raise good-faith payment discrepancies.
Collection is limited to what the assignment needs.
Depending on the approved assignment, project data may include video, device-microphone audio, images, motion or sensor data, timestamps, device information, task information, operational logs, notes, labels, annotations, and quality-control records. Standard first-person footage may show the contributor's hands, arms, body movement, clothing, and work performance.
We also process the account, contact, payment destination, security, and review metadata needed to operate the contributor program, evaluate submissions, maintain records, and pay for accepted work. More detail is available in our Privacy Policy.
We describe downstream use plainly.
Subject to the governing agreements, disclosures, Country Addendum, and applicable law, accepted project data and its derivatives may be used for quality review, research, model training and evaluation, product development, customer demonstrations, licensing, and commercialization. A public or open-source release may occur only when permitted by the applicable terms and law.
Unless separately agreed, we do not identify a contributor by direct name or direct contact details in a public release of project data. We do not use personal information for advertising or marketing profiles, and we do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Licensing rights-cleared project data is distinct from selling contributor contact or account information.
Access is controlled throughout the data lifecycle.
We use encrypted transmission, secured cloud infrastructure, role-based access controls, and scoped credentials. Access is limited to authorized personnel and service providers who need it for collection operations, review, security, administration, or approved downstream work.
We retain accepted recordings and associated records for as long as needed for the disclosed purposes or as required by law. Recordings disapproved during review are flagged for deletion and permanently removed from our systems within 30 days of disapproval. Access, correction, restriction, portability, objection, and deletion requests are handled under our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
These standards are reviewed and enforced.
Written agreements, assignment rules, consent procedures, training materials, review records, and access controls turn this policy into operating practice. Submissions may be rejected, down-rated, removed, or escalated when they are unauthorized, unlawful, unsafe, deceptive, outside scope, or present a privacy or security risk.
Material violations can result in suspension or termination of collection access. We investigate reported concerns, preserve appropriate audit records, correct practices when needed, and update this policy as our programs and legal obligations change.
Governing documents
This statement does not replace a signed agreement or create a waiver of any non-waivable right. The applicable contributor agreement, Country Addendum, Assignment Brief, approved consent process, Privacy Policy, and law govern each collection.
